Important news from our annual general meeting

U3A Warwick Inc update

November 27, 2023

Here is a summary of important news from our Annual General Meeting held on November 24.

 Sign-on Days

Our registration and sign-on days have been scheduled for Thursday January 18 and Friday January 19 from 10am to 2pm in the Rooms at 1 Tooth Street. Committee members will be on hand to take your payments and Membership forms, which can be downloaded from the website. We will also have membership forms at sign-on.

The course outlines for Term One 2024 will be published in the newsletter to be distributed on or about January 10. Course outlines will also be available on the website.

Members are required to contact the tutor/s of courses they are enrolling in. There will be hard copies of the newsletter and course diary available for those without internet access.

New Fee Structure

At the September 2023 meeting, the committee made a decision to change the fee structure and raise fees in 2024. Annual membership fees are to increase by $10 from $30 to $40 p.a. for ordinary members (January to December); Part-year members who join from 1 July-30 September will pay $25. Ordinary members who join after 1 October will pay $40 which covers them until December of the following year. The discounted membership for people living in the same household has been discontinued.

The change to membership fees was explained to members at the AGM. Our 2023 financial report will be posted to the website later this week.

This is the first fee increase in a decade and U3A Warwick Inc’s fees are still well below those of comparable U3As.

Management committee for 2024 (update 16/12/23)

Sally Edwards, who was re-elected president at the AGM on November 24., has resigned for personal reasons. At the committee meeting on December 14,  Louize Fulton was elected President with Grahame Peacock taking over as Vice President.  Other positions are: Rhonda Cooney (Secretary) Grahame Peacock (Campus Manager). Mark Agnew (Treasurer). Committee members: Bob Wilson, Maureen Sutcliffe, Marianne Whitby (Course Coordinator), Jennifer Stark.

New Premises

A lease has been negotiated and signed for the vacant building previously occupied by Endeavour. The rent is nominal although U3A Warwick will have to pay electricity bills and attended to maintenance matters. You can read more about this developing story in the January newsletter.

Covid Policy

Following recent advice from U3A Network Qld the Committee decided at its November 2023 meeting to cancel the requirement for members to be vaccinated. Instead members are encouraged to monitor their own health and should they experience symptoms, or if they test positive for Covid, they should not attend U3A activities and are encouraged to stay at home.
